If the emperor says that they’ll have everything, it means they’ll have everything.īut what kind of offer or answers were these, really? Evasive, lacking, insincere? Too standard? Too blunt? For a second, Rivet had considered saying “yes”, considered finally ending the cycle by allowing them to join in perhaps the strangest union the galaxy had ever heard of – but then her logical side objected and as a result, she did too. Yet he offered her a spot as his empress without any hesitation, any delay, answering any questions she had in the exact same manner – questions that would define their lives, their future. How could she not get her hopes up, even if it’d been for a brief moment? He was ready to die a brave death in a battle, even when the battle wasn’t as serious – even if it was just for a spot on a stolen mattress at night. She looked at his face, looked at him in those orange eyes, listened to his words – and she almost trusted him wholeheartedly. He whispered sweet nothings into her ear, things she secretly wished to hear. Love, a secure future – Nefarious had offered her the world at one point, after a stolen kiss. There were even thoughts she hadn’t given consideration of until now. This aspect of some certainty – some genuineness – in their relationship satisfied Rivet completely, never the source of questions that arose a little too late for her own comfort. Simpler questions, on the other hand – about their everyday life – were chewing her inside out with uncertainty, with moments she hadn’t thought twice about back then. It was tiring the lombax out, to be dragging this idiotic, stubborn, and very vocal emperor out of the trench of his own wrongness, but such was her holy duty as his occasional lover – his lover that was too kind for her own good, it seemed. Nefarious, however, was even more persistent in his quest to prove to her that he did, actually, conquer her heart. And damn it, she was tired of having to show Nefarious that he was, in fact, not fully conquering her heart as he’d done with various planets. Rivet’s lifelong plans never counted the possibility that this could ever change. Even the smallest trifles resembled death matches, and every disagreement – no different than their battles where they’d clash and often, one or both of them would be left with scratches and bruises. She always went to war with such a bloke around. She was stubborn, yes, but she wasn’t an idiot. She had a feeling it would always be this way. She always expected it from Nefarious – that is, her dimension’s Nefarious the emperor. Could there be any when it was all she ever knew? Rivet implored herself that there was no difference at all, at least in her eyes. Occasional tender love or not, what’s the difference, especially with the events that always followed after the sweet embraces and kisses? The constant fights, battles, nasty spats – a circle of love and hate. The option of true love conquering all and changing someone Rivet had discarded almost immediately, and closed it off for her dreams and mind – forever open – with the same determination with which she kept up the resistance and rebellion. But Rivet couldn’t help but wonder: was there any other option? A way out? It was even scary at times to go from hating someone to loving them, to hating them all over again, only to realize there was still some love left. It hurt so much to go through this vicious, seemingly neverending cycle.
